Why are links important!

There was a time when people use to generate as many back links as possible so that they can reach to the first page of the Google search. Every link was initially considered as a vote to the website and thus more votes your website is getting means your website was more popular.

These days people has changed the view. Links are still considered as a vote to the website but the way to count them as a popularity meter has changed. Now the quantity of the backlinks are not considered as a strong matter rather than the quality of the backlinks are considered as the popularity meter of the sites.

There are a few factors which can make a link more valuable. These are:

Relevancy: It is the term which is considered as a strong factor to count the value of a link from the very beginning. It is like getting a review from Danny Sullivan the Editor-In-Chief of Search Engine Land, that I am a good SEO is much better than getting the same type of review from the US President. A small appraisel words from Danny Sullivan can create a huge buzz about my SEO knowledge and people are in the same business will think that I am a good SEO, but the same effect can not be generated from the review of the US President since people understand that US President is not supposed to have more information about SEO. So relevancy should always be take care of.

Anchor Text: Anchor Text is the visible, and clickable text in a hyperlink (As defined in Wikipedia). Some people consider that if you choose your keywords as an anchor text then you will get the boost in the SERP for that keyword, but I think that the anchor text should always look like a natural one rather than a spam one. One more thing is required and that is the variation of the keywords, since all the anchor text should not be the same.

Page Factor: This is some thing which is not in our hand, but we should take care of this. In this we should take care of the position of the link on the page, that it should be in between the content not in between a few links. A link which is at the top of the page has much more value than the link which is at footer.

So these are a few factors which can determine the quality of the back link. As many quality back links your site is having the more the value of the website.
